SOCIAL MEDIA Y MODA: Escaparate, Fenómeno y Fascinación

Internet and the develop of the world 2.0 has generated a complete change in the way we live and create reality. Its effects have affected all aspects of human life, and in this context fashion couldn't keep out. Its effects, though a bit late, have been felt radically, changing the working way of the sector.

But obviously, being a complex sector with an operating system that is governed by very particular consumption´s parameters, the impact of the 2.0 and Social Mediain fashion Industry has evolved differently, whereby professionals, analysts, community managers and experts have had to "readapt" all their strategies to a sector that is based on "a lie we all want to believe," which is nothing more than the aspirational and utopian universe that fashion.

The Social Media in Fashion is based on the fact that brands create new ways to connect with their customers using social networks, bloggers and “it girls” as their new commercial showcase, so that everyone in any part of the world have access to their products and "conceptual brand universe" through them. Fashion brands use each of these elements with very different strategies, but together they constitute its brand presence in the digital world.

The Bloggers and “It Girls” are the main communicators of brands on the Internet, becoming a true universal phenomenon. People around the planet want to imitate their proposals and consume the products they recommend or stand out, follow their ideas, and above all, support the brands and products they promote. Brands, aware of the significance of this phenomenon, increasingly build alliances with bloggers and “It Girls” to promote their work and improve their digital strategies, benefiting both parties in this relationship.

Social Networks in Fashion work in two ways: in one hand, the social nature of fashion makes people want to share and show their personality through the clothes they wear and their image, and in this sense they use social networks as a platform of "socialization" of fashion, sharing tastes, brands and products. On the other hand, brands manage their social networks as a channel of direct interaction with users, where the message and communication is bidirectional. This allows them to measure the acceptance of their proposals in their target more effectively, while listening, supporting and giving them what they really want, and capturing new audiences. Within this context, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Instagram are the most popular social networks in the fashion sector.

Fashion brands share three basic types of content through their social networks: Advertising, News / Events / Everyday life of the brand-company, and finally Contests and Special Promotions for the fans of the brand, which usually involve the users/followers wining a prize/benefit for doing specific actions within their social networks.

As we can see, the Social Media fits the fashion world in a special way, with complex and fascinating strategies in which all of us have been part in any way. It is an amazing phenomenon that has changed the magnitudes in the way to consume and understand fashion. In AF Moda we are constantly surprised by its scope, while we love being part of it.

AF MODA VISITA LAS IV JORNADAS DE BLOGS DE MODA

---------------------------------------------------------------------

A couple of weeks ago in AF Moda we had the opportunity to attend for first time  to the Conference of Fashion Blogs, event held at the Museum of Costume in Madrid, now in its fourth edition. We were the first surprised when they accepted our request (we had applied several times and never they selected us), and now, we are very grateful for all that we could learn and enjoy the event and for the wonderful new friends we made.

Beyond the waste of outfits and "blogger attitude" (as always happens in such events, there was a lot of it, for better or worse), we have to recognize that the organizers,  Patricia Gonzalez and Maria Giraldo,  took great attention to detail and care for attendees, as well as for the preparation of the  conferences  and the valuable professional contribution. From AF Moda we are very grateful for giving us so much, and hope there arises new opportunities for them to organize future conferences and allow us to be there to support and share.

The theme of this edition was about how the "bubble of Fashion blogs" was collapsed and therefore whether it has exploded or not.

The Conversation Table considered that while it is true that today all sectors are saturated (lots of everything), in the case of fashion blogs, bloguers have the need to create quality and valuable content, and also write with true motivation as differentiating factors.

We liked the perception of Carlos Primo (fashion journalist, speaker of the conference), which said that in the world of bloggers "everybody talks but nobody really listens, and that there are  too many looks and styling, but very few fashion content, and this situation is which has been saturated and exploited”. He considers that today the blogger world lives a necessary evolution where the public is beginning to search and find content that will really add value. In this sense, blogging should bet more on reflection than image, and rethink their writing strategies in that direction.

However in AF Moda, unfortunately, we think this will take a while to really happen. The blogging world has been based on the system of "celebrity blogger", often more “character” than real person, where it matters most the image, fame, sponsorship of major brands and the number of followers than the contents of true value and contribution for the fashion industry. In spite of that, bloggers like us, which are called " Romantic " because we don´t make money from our blogs but write for passion and deep desire to contribute with good content, we work hard on constantly and patiently keeping afloat from our tiny platforms, coexisting with all the great and famous bloggers, pulling forward and doing what we like the most, to write about this complex and wonderful industry that fashion is. More than like a bubble to burst, we see the fashion blogging world as many boats floating to the open sea, some of them fabulous and better prepared than others, but all struggling to move in this changing unpredictable ocean that is fashion. What is really important? Keep on going... be consistent and stay afloat even though more boats emerge every day, although we are not always seen, tirelessly trying to add value and be genuine in an industry that is not always real, and that change every passing moment. It is the only way to survive in the blogger world. In this we are and why we continue!.

We really enjoyed the conference of Belen Torregosa about inspiring content for our fashion blogs, which invited us to be authentic and to make the personal blog a source of stories to tell, about fashion and about ourselves.

Was also loved the great conference of Cristina Mesa about legal survival skills for fashion bloggers, where she talked about the legality of the content in the blogosphere, what we have to be careful with and how we can protect our work. She also talked about online reputation, events, raffles and contests on the blog, all with a super accessible language to all, and with her characteristic charisma and sympathy. We love this woman!.

And Patricia Salgado´s conference about social media metrics was very interesting too. She talked about metrics that can help us measure the extent and effectiveness of our content and to better understand our target audience and followers.

For closing conferences, the organizers prepared a contest of fashion illustration. We were very happy that the winners resulted to be the Sketchic girls, three young and talented bloggers full of dreams.

We had the great fortune to meet and share the day with Madrid Fashion Dream, Free your Karisma, Friendly Madrid and My Fashion, all of them great bloggers and lovely people. Definitely with friends these kinds of events are enjoyed more, and meeting them was a privilege. Thank you very much girls for being so special and sharing the Journey with us!.

In AF Moda we deeply value each event where we are invited as a source of learning and a way to have great experiences, discovering more of the wonderful and complex world of fashion. This event has been a little step, another dream we have achieved, and we had the opportunity to live and enjoy it the most. We are very happy to have been able to be in this IV Conference of Fashion Blogs and we hope to participate in many more! It was an amazing experience!.
